While it’s getting darker and we’re preparing for winter, Bonniers Konsthall presents a different kind of Christmas window-display which will light up Torsgatan. The glass façade of our building has been transformed into a projection surface on which we display video works by five artists, all, in their own way, related to the season. The video exhibition presents nostalgic childhood memories, dystopian storms in mini format, the human body’s ungainliness on ice and on vast expanses of snow. The video works will be displayed daily from nightfall to sunrise.
Participating artists: Eva Meyer-Keller, Lars Siltberg, Nedko Solakov, Etta Säfve and Jaan Toomik.
Eva Meyer-Keller’s work is multi-faceted. She often works across genres with performance, video, and she arranges concerts and festivals. Eva Meyer-Keller has studied photography and visual art in Berlin and London. She is a graduate of the School for New Dance Development, Amsterdam, and a member of the electro rock band Ochosa. Lives and works in Berlin, Germany.
Lars Siltberg works mainly with video. His work deals with issues of the human body which he depicts in an absurd, grotesque and imaginative manner. Lars Siltberg was educated at The School of Photography at Göteborg University. He has participated in several group exhibitions, including Plateau of Humankind, Venice 2001, and has held a number of solo exhibitions at Milliken Gallery, Stockholm. Lives and works in Stockholm, Sweden.
Nedko Solakov’s work is characterised by an imaginative form of story-telling, in which he constructs his works as almost separate worlds, by using a great variety of techniques. The poetical is interlaid with the political, often with a humoristic touch. In 2004 he held a solo exhibition at Malmö Konsthall. He was educated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia, Bulgaria, where he lives and works.
Etta Säfve’s art is situated at the intersection of nature and culture. In the form of snowy forests, spring flower meadows or sunsets, nature is perceived as a mental landscape or a resonant backdrop for human life. Etta Säfve works with drawing, painting, video and film. In 2004, she held a solo exhibition at Gallery ak28, Stockholm. She participated in the Nightcomers project at the 2007 Istanbul Biennial. Etta Säfve was born in Uppsala and educated at Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam, Holland, where she lives and works.
Jaan Toomik trained as a painter but works across a range of artistic expressions. In his video works, Toomik often sets out from his personal history, using himself as an actor. His art can be said to operate in the charged interface of the intimate and the common, the religious and the secular. Jaan Toomik currently holds a solo exhibition at Kumu Art, Estonia. Jaan Toomik is a professor at the Estonian Academy of Arts. He lives and works in Tallinn, Estonia.
