With a background as a pianist, Guido van der Werve wants his video works to have the same immediate impact as music. His films take their point of departure in a historic and romantic melancholy which encompasses the presence of bygone composers. In Nummer zes; Steinway grand piano, wake me up to go to sleep and all the colors of the rainbow, the artist recounts the history of the Steinway grand piano, concluding with a performance of Chopin’s piano concerto in E minor. Van der Werve sits at the grand piano when the work is performed in his small apartment.
Born in 1977 in Holland, Guido van der Werve lives and works in Helsinki, Finland.
