Bauwerk II (Building II) & Der Tragödie erster Teil (The First Part of the Tragedy), 2009.

The works originate in reflections on Faust, the eponymous hero of Goethe’s drama. The strongly illuminated book pages comprise an extract of this existential play. Human endeavour and building technology are intertwined in the exhibition, which the artist compares to the half-timbered houses in Faust’s home area. The wood material of Bauwerk II is also inspired by the railway visible through Bonniers Konsthall’s windows.

“Faust is really a modern human being, on a quest for power, love and meaning.” Ebba Bohlin
